Shaumik Roy is a foreign and security affairs researcher specialising in India-US relations, intelligence and security studies, defence and counterterrorism, and transnational organised crime. He holds a MSc. in Crisis and Security Management with a specialisation in Intelligence and National Security from Universiteit Leiden in the Netherlands. His academic and professional background encompasses foreign relations, security services and intelligence studies, intelligence policy, geopolitical risk, and strategic assessment, with particular interest in HUMINT and contemporary security challenges. Roy's work at the Ananta Centre focuses on India-US and Indo-Pacific relations, Indian security and intelligence issues, and diplomatic engagement. He works on programming for the India–US Forum, Neighborhood Dialogues (Nepal and Sri Lanka) and the QUAD Ports of the Future Conference. He has also moderated roundtables on hybrid threats and emerging technology, assists in managing the Ananta Critical Minerals Dashboard, and produces the Arohana podcast. He also writes the Ananta “Southern Currents” Newsletter focusing on Latin America and India. When not working, you can find him digging into a bowl of soup, experimenting with cocktails or reading. Currently he is reading Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising and William Dalrymple's City of Djinns.
