The fourth India-Japan Forum convened by Ananta Centre in partnership with Ministry of External Affairs, took place on 7-8 December, 2025 in New Delhi This forum provided a premier platform for policymakers, thought leaders, and private sector representatives to discuss current geopolitical trends and global economic challenges, focusing on key areas crucial to the future of the India-Japan relationship. The event was held under the Chatham House Rules, encouraging open and interactive discussions among participants. Approximately 130 delegates from both India and Japan attended the forum.
Dr. S. Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, addressed the inaugural session, and Toshimitsu Motegi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, delivered a video message.
The forum received support from various organizations, including Godrej, JetSynthesys, CII, TATA, JBIC, Suntory, Mitsubishi, and Premji Invest.
This year, the Forum concentrated on strengthening the India-Japan partnership by focusing on critical themes like economic security, defense cooperation, and the strategic significance of semiconductors.
Discussions covered investment and trade, critical minerals, supply chains, mobility, and energy sources, all aimed at bolstering key sectors and addressing strategic vulnerabilities.
The Forum also highlighted the importance of collaborative governance and explored the partnership’s role in third countries to promote connectivity and sustainable development throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, addressed the inaugural session, and Mr Takeshi Iwaya, Japanese Foreign Minister, delivered a video message. Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister of India, along with several experts from Japan and India, engaged in discussions throughout the forum.
This year’s forum focused on several critical areas of collaboration, including defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, the semiconductor industry, AI governance, alternative energy sources, supply chains, high-tech geopolitics, and enhancing trust within the bilateral relationship.
The Ananta Centre, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, organized the second edition of the India-Japan Forum. The forum was inaugurated by S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, India and Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Japan. The forum provided a platform for cross industry leaders to shape the future of bilateral and strategic partnerships through conversation, deliberation and collaboration.
The closed-door gathering was attended by around 100 high-level participants, all of whom brought to the table valuable insights from their own rich experiences and understanding. The forum was co- chaired by Vinay Kwatra Foreign Secretary of India, NK Singh, chairman 15th Finance Commission of India, and Jamshyd Godrej, Chairman, Ananta Centre and CMD, Godrej and Boyce Mfg.
The event held under Chatham House Rules spanned over two days and covered an array of topics and themes such as; Indo-Pacific, Strategic Technology, Defence, Infrastructure in the Northeast and Bangladesh, Balancing energy security with a green future etc. The aim of the forum was to bolster cooperation, leverage opportunities, exchange ideas, build mutual trust and develop a joint agenda for future cooperation.
Additionally the event also saw the launch of the book “Kaizen Niti: 70 years of India-Japan Relations” The closing ceremony of the event was a special conversation featuring Nirmala Sitharama, Minister of Finance, India.
The inaugural edition of The India Japan Forum convened by Ananta Centre in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India was held virtually on 20th July 2021.
The Forum was co-chaired by Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Foreign Secretary, Government of India and N.K. Singh, Chairman, 15th Finance Commission, Government of India and Trustee, Ananta Aspen Centre.
